Bio

Valerie Doyle was born and raised on Long Island, New York, 3o minutes from Manhattan where she graduated from the Fashion Institute of technology. After enjoying decades of worldwide travel as a sourcing agent, design director and merchandiser for top global fashion companies, Valerie was asked to teach on Long Island high school art, design and technology. Valerie  has been in love with farming from the age of 9 when her stepfather  her how to create an edible garden in their backyard.  Val’s fascination with farming lead her to obtain a B.S. in Science from F.I.T. and a M.S. in Education, Literacy ,Special education from C.W.Post.,  and a Post Master’s in administration law. Her education career  as a S.T.E.A.M. teacher spanned nearly 25  teaching science, technology, engineer, art and math. . She has enjoyed a long and diverse career in Teaching holding,  9 NY state teaching certifications< As single mother of 2 she absolutely understands the loving bond that forms when you spend time reading to your child. and. Now as a grandmother. Valerie fondly recalls the many hours spent reading to her daughter and son  which gives the ability to monitor your own child’s education milestones through the book you read and knowledge your share with them. After retiring from teaching in 2020Cornell farming courses became her new passion., Valerie Doyle is a Cornell Master Gardener with affiliations with multiple historical societies, houses of worship, farms and community gardens that are registered Pollinator Pathways and  S.T.E.A.M. gardens that incorporate a sensory and multidisciplinary approach to teaching and learning. Valerie is currently an independent author and illustrator of The Magic Edible Garden, her first children’s book. Now Valerie wants to share her love and fascination how pollinators work to produce our food. In the Magic Edible Gardne Book her artistic talents to educate and inspire children and families with the proven successful methods of gardening for all ages are represented through her storytelling and sometime fun some scientific illustrations.. Her goal is to create engaging agriculturally accurate books that inspire and teach S.T.E.A.M. through farming. Valerie currently lives on Long Island, N.Y.  with her family at the little log cabin by the sea where the Magic Edible Garden took root.   Valerie’s dream of teaching people how to create a backyard edible pollinator gardens is spelled out in this cozy story that takes place at the Edible Magic Garden on Long Island.
